Frequently Asked Questions

About Your Film & Scanning

1. What kind of film can you scan?
We specialise in standard 35mm film and 120 film negatives. We are able to scan more unusual sizes, such as 110 or Disc film, but these are subject to a case-by-case decision. This means we can scan most negatives shot on older cameras from the 1900s right up to the present day, and just about anything in between. We are currently not scanning motion picture reels.

2. Are the negatives safe when you handle them?
Absolutely. We understand these are irreplaceable family memories. All negatives are handled with cotton gloves, cleaned manually before scanning, and kept in a secure, climate-controlled environment while they are with us.

3. What resolution or quality will the digital images be?
For archival purposes, we use a Standard Resolution JPEG scan. This quality is perfect for viewing clearly on modern computers and tablets, sharing with family via email, and making standard prints up to A4 size. For larger prints, select premium scans.

4. Can you scan the film if it needs developing?
Not directly, we only scan film that has already been developed and is in the form of cut or uncut negative strips. If it needs developed, we can provide this through a third party; however, particularly on old rolls of film, results cannot be guaranteed.

Pricing, Payment, and Delivery

5. How much will it cost me?
Our service is priced simply, and the fixed prices can be found on the order form. For unlisted film types, please select "other" and add a note.

6. How do I pay you?
Once we receive your film and confirm the total number of rolls, we will send you a simple invoice via email with payment instructions. We accept payment via secure bank transfer (BACS).

7. How long will it take?
Our current turnaround time is typically 7-10 working days from when we receive your film. We will notify you when the scanning is complete and when your originals are shipped back.

8. How do I receive the digital pictures?
We deliver your high-quality digital files safely via a secure online link (e.g., WeTransfer or Google Drive). You can download the images directly to your computer, phone or tablet from this link.

Shipping and Returns

9. How do I send my negatives to you?
When you place an order, we will provide clear instructions on how to package your film safely. We strongly recommend using Royal Mail Signed For or Tracked 48 when sending us your film for your own peace of mind.

10. How will my original negatives be returned?
Your originals are returned to you via Royal Mail Tracked service (included in the £5.00 fee), ensuring they arrive back safely and securely at your address.

11. My negatives are "unviable", what does that mean?
This means that your film is, unfortunately, damaged beyond restoration. If this is the case, your film will be returned and you will only be charged for the return shipping.
